----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Earth Day Coalition's Clean Transportation Program is celebrating 10 years of designation as a Clean Cities Coalition by the U.S. Department of Energy! Every year the United States increases its dependence on imported oil, which increases the trade deficit, costs jobs, and undermines our national energy security. Moreover, vehicle emissions are responsible for approximately 30% of our air pollution. We can change this situation by expanding the use of domestically produced clean fuels including: biodiesel, E85 ethanol, SVO, natural gas, hydrogen, and propane plus clean technologies such as hybrid, plug-in hybrid, diesel retrofits, fuel cells and finally we strongly support the implementation of clean practices for the transportation industry.  Clean practices imply behavioral changes such as reduced idling, car sharing, transit & bicycling incentives, and eco-driving.
The mission of Earth Day Coalition's Clean Transportation Program is to educate fleets on the tools that will enable them to operate a clean vehicle fleet that uses less petroleum and produces less emissions.  Although our approach is solution neutral, we will work with your fleet to determine a best fit solution to meet your needs and if desired, assist in finding funding to implement the desired solution. Earth Day Coalition's Clean Transportation program operates in the  (NEO) region, which includes (Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit counties).
To meet this mission Earth Day Coalition is a partner in the U.S. Department of Energy's National Clean Cities Program. Clean Cities is a voluntary effort to accelerate and expand the use of clean fuels, practices, and technologies for reducing petrol use in transportation.
In Northeast Ohio, a variety of alternative fuels are used and there are approximately 2,000 alternative fuel vehicles (AFV's) being operated by business and government fleets. Among the local fleets employing AFV's are the Congregation of St. Joseph (cng), Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (biodiesel and cng), Cuyahoga County (ethanol), NASA (biodiesel, ethanol, cng) Ohio Department of Transportation (cng and biodiesel), Cleveland Public Power (natural gas), and Dominion East Ohio (cng) and the City of Cleveland (60+ hybrid vehicles).
Clean Fuels, Practices, & Technologies:

  • Assist in securing our nation's energy independence
  • Are cleaner burning than gasoline and diesel
  • Are often domestically produced
  • Are cost competitive
  • Are often renewable
  • Improve our quality of life
  • Help to reduce barriers to economic development in the region
  • Can reduce fuel expenditures
